The bilge pump is typically a submersible pump that is placed directly in the water:

Pump housing with runner that sucks and pushes water forward
Float switch for automatic start/stop at certain water levels
Pressure connection to hose or pipe for water drainage
Particle handling option depending on model (e.g. sludge water)

It can deliver from small capacities of a few m³/h to more powerful models pumping several hundred m³/h.
