Diesel pump – powerful and mobile solution for demanding bypass pumping

A diesel pump is a portable pumping unit powered by a diesel engine. It is independent of the power grid and is often used for temporary and emergency applications where flexibility and high performance are needed. Diesel pumps are used for wastewater, groundwater, surface water and industrial applications, among others.

They are available as both self-priming pumps and with submersible pump systems – depending on the application and installation conditions.

Technical function

The diesel pump consists of an internal combustion engine, typically with its own fuel tank, and a pump unit connected directly to the engine. When the engine is started, it drives the impeller, which creates negative pressure and pumps the fluid through the system.

Self-priming models can draw water from levels below the pump without pre-filling, making them particularly effective in the field.

Advantages of diesel pumps

  • Reliable and power independent – ideal for remote or emergency situations

  • High capacity and long runtime with large fuel tank

  • Robust and weatherproof, designed for outdoor use

  • Transportable pumps – often mounted on trailer or frame

  • Easy to service with access to all vital components

Typical applications

  • Temporary bypass pumping during sewer and pipe renovation

  • Dewatering construction sites without power supply

  • Emptying basements and wells during flooding

  • Wastewater and sludge management in industry and utilities

  • Emergency response and emergency pumping in case of accidents or downtime

Material and variants

Diesel pumps are available in several different sizes and configurations:

  • Materials: Cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum – depending on the medium

  • Variants:

    • Self-priming pumps for quick start-up

    • High-capacity models for high flow rates

    • Trailer or frame-mounted solutions

    • Soundproof enclosures for noise-sensitive areas

    • ATEX-certified models for hazardous environments
