In connection with a major construction project in Uppsala, two temporary pumping stations were needed in the middle of the densely built-up city center. RH Pumper was chosen for the task and has delivered a tailor-made bypass pumpings with electric pumps and 24/7 surveillance (and monitoring),
The project places high demands on both technical precision and consideration for the surroundings. Therefore, from the start, we emphasized that the solution should be quiet and as smooth as possible. We ensured this through close dialog with all parties involved in the project.
2,600 meters of pipe and free access in the city
The bypass pumpings consist of two parallel 500mm pipes that follow the Fyris River through Uppsala. The line runs from the Cathedral area and passes several roads and bridges, where RH Pumper has established 10 portals varying from 3 to 5.2 meters in height and 6 to 24 meters in length. The portals ensure unhindered passage for pedestrians, cyclists, cars and emergency vehicles – and residents have had access to nearby cafés and shops throughout the process.
In total, 2,600 meters of pipes have been installed, winding through the center of Uppsala city center. All are flanged and bolted with gaskets for maximum tightness and safety.
Electric pumps for urban environments
To meet the requirements for quiet and sustainable operation, RH Pumper used electric, self-priming pumps – developed specifically for pumping wastewater. The solution included 6 x 200mm pumps all of course with integrated SRO-monitoring (Control, Regulation and Monitoring) Units have such a low noise level that it is possible to have a conversation next to the pumps. An important factor in the dense residential areas around Fyris Å
The bypass pumpings are designed so that the maximum continuous flow is 450 l/s.
Monitoring and built-in backup systems
The entire facility is monitored around the clock via 4G network. Among other things, the system registers the pressure in shut-off balloons, the status of backup compressors and the water level in wells. To eliminate the risk of downtime, there are also built-in backup solutions with both generator and diesel pumps that are automatically activated in the event of a power failure or extreme rainfall.
Climate-friendly solution for modern cities
Electric pumps are not only quiet – they don’t emit Co2 or odors, making them the most environmentally friendly choice for bypass pumping in urban areas. The pumps are automatically frequency regulated according to the inflow, ensuring optimal operation and the lowest possible power consumption.
Seamless implementation
The project in Uppsala was completed without disruption during the period to the full satisfaction of both client and residents. RH Pumper delivered a flexible, energy-efficient and sustainable solution that met all technical and practical requirements.
